i attended one day of a two day assembly and did ok until the very last talk.
the brother was from bethal and well jw's pay closer attention to their talks, cause that is when some new info is given,,,right.
well anyways i lost focus and began to daydream, cause it became one of those talks that just talks about wasting time.
I've not been an elder or to a meeting in 15 yrs. Nowdays, is one of the duties each meeting to monitor those present during prayer? Why would this ridiculous personal invasion of family even be mentioned from a CA platform, unless there was some kind of check going on?

i commented elsewhere that some believe john the baptist might have been the author of the book of revelation.
i thought i should start a new thread on this subject, since the subject might be of interest to others.. over the centuries, several names have been put forward as the author but, as i wrote, some only think the firebrand baptist might have been the author, but no one really knows.. i have provided a scan from a book that discusses what we know of the author as well as canvassing possible candidates.. the pages are available at:.

i understand that, if you want to move from a congregation to another, you need some sort of a letter from the previous congregation.
i suppose that would be the root of many an abuse by the elders of the old congregation.
what can you guys tell me?.
I remember a pioneer in his early 50's coming to the cong. He was an MS where he came from, but you wondered with his age, spirituality, and credentials why he wan't an elder. Well, we soon found out. The BOE's from his previous cong. sent a multi-page letter listing every pet peave they had with the guy. It was embarrassing, ridiculous, unprofessional, unloving, unchristian and absolutely uncalled for. What was really sad was that some of our elders judged this guy afterwards based on 2nd hand info contained in this letter from an elder they knew nothing about.

With all due respect to friends in the US, I think if Jesus or anyone else came to live on this earth, Brooklyn would probably NOT be his/her first choice of venue. Maybe somewhere with a better climate, vista etc etc.........

i am really on the fence on this issue right now and would love some opinions.. i find that i dont sit down and read the bible for long periods since becoming inactive, but on the other hand, individual scriptures mean much more to me now.. i will sit down and look up some favorite passages from time to time and feel like its the first time i really "got it" - without the jw goggles on.
i love matthew chapter 23, since i think it describes to a tee the situation in jw congregations.
i think if jesus returned today, he would blast the elders and "leaders" of the borg in a similar fashion (along with most religious leaders) .matthew 24 is actually more interesting to me now, simply because my whole life was waiting for the 1914 generation to end sometime during the reagan era!
I went from having a personal bible where practically every page had some commentary notes and other scripture references that I put in (many pages completely full), to not even cracking open a bible in 15 yrs. Doubt I could even find one in the house now.
